We ask the next NSW state government to commit to building all new trains, trams, buses and ferries here in NSW.
NSW voters are sick of public transport that arrives years late, billions over budget, and doesn't work.
For 12 years, the NSW Coalition Government has bought our public transport off-the-shelf from elsewhere. They've spent billions of dollars on delays and repairs, lost thousands of local manufacturing jobs, and neglected the next generation of skilled workers.
Enough is enough.
Other states have invested in building their public transport locally – and now they're reaping the benefits. While local public transport manufacturing supports hundreds of local jobs in Victoria, Queensland, and Western Australia, NSW is being left behind.
Instead, we got trains built too wide for the tracks, ferries that can't handle Sydney Harbour's swells, and trams riddled with cracks – all delivered past deadline and over budget.
A commitment from the next state government to Build Them Here will create good, secure jobs in local communities, reduce wasteful spending on needless repairs, and help revitalise our national manufacturing sector.
We're asking the next NSW state government to commit to:
- designing, building, and maintaining our trains, trams, buses and ferries in NSW — creating jobs for local workers;
- supporting procurement policies that mandate the use of local content on government transport contracts, with preference given to local manufacturers, suppliers, and service providers;
- make safety and reliability a priority in the procurement of new public transport, and consult with end users through every step of the process; and
- investing in the TAFE system to ensure we have a skilled manufacturing workforce.
Please sign to show your support so we can bring local manufacturing jobs back, support our local communities, and make NSW public transport some of the best in the world.
